A Librarian is Born

C.W. Hewett's TLRPosted by Leif Ahnland 15 May, 2009 07:45PM
Just a suggestion from someone. The Librarian's mother was a librarian and didn't get to the hospital on time and therefore gave birth to our protagonist in the library where she worked back then. Destiny...

Comments and ideas here, anyone?

quite a cunning idea, really..
Following in your parents fotsteps, *and* within the place where she worked. If you want to look deeper, then you can speculate that the library, is indeed a special kind of sanctuary for the librarian... born there, protected and loved by his mother, and the library itself would seem more comforting and safe for him. I would go on to say that the library itself could be seen subcounciously by the librarian as a surrogate womb..er.. or is that *too* deep? :)

Its also an excellent way to tie in the start (or or his background) of how the Librarian has come to be in the Library. it introduces both aspects - him and the library.

I think it's a really interesting idea, and that maybe this thursday we should have a chat about ideas like this, maybe?

In what way do you intend before he dies? Like getting a vision or something? Possibly. Why not. I thought it is something we could introduce at some point, thourgh a diary entry from his youth or his mother's diary or something. So that it comes like an explantation to some things that otherwise may seem to much. He is probably going to be a very obsessed kind of person that is not very sociable to start with and growing up with all these books could fit in with that. This makes me think of the idea you (Mary D.) had about someone living in the library, hidden away. Maybe he was brought up like that. Or maybe that is too weird.

I know. It would perhaps be to push it a bit but is something that could fit in with the story. Our librarian would perhaps not be so strange if he had a strange strange background. In any case, his background is something that should surface later on in the story.
